What it does
ColorAide is a Python library for colour conversion, interpolation, blending and analysis. It supports CSS colour syntax and additional colour spaces through plugins.
Install coloraide and create a Color from a CSS string, coordinates or a dictionary. Convert that object into the space needed by a calculation, then return a dictionary for stored data or a colour string for output.
The usual Color class loads a selected set of spaces and tools. Add required plugins through a subclass, or use ColorAll to explore the wider collection. Numerical sRGB channels use 0 to 1; those values differ from the familiar 0 to 255 RGB notation.
Output has separate precision and gamut controls. to_string() normally fits colours into the current gamut, while serialize() normally preserves out-of-range values. Hex output must fit sRGB. Choose the route according to whether the result is for display or further calculation.
The project is distributed under MIT terms.
Strengths
- Dictionary input and output retain colour-space and channel information.
Watch out for
- The default Color class does not register every available feature.
Best for
- Python workflows that need controlled colour conversion and output
