What it does
FaceType publishes Publica, Adria, Ragu, Plaquette, Strangelove Next and other retail fonts. Some catalog families include free styles, and reduced trial versions are available for evaluating the wider collection.
Publica’s Sans, Slab, Soft and Play branches offer different treatments for a related brand shortlist. Moki takes a more display-led direction with Base, Soft, Lean, Cut, Dust, Uni and Mono styles. Its specimen lets you change the family and style, adjust Size and inspect available OT Features; the character viewer shows the selected glyph’s name and Unicode value.
The separate Trial Fonts form asks for a name, email and agreement to the test licence. These files have a reduced character set and disabled OpenType features. They can help with presentations and mockups, but commercial use requires regular licensing. The homepage marks free styles in families including Moki, Darjeeling and Letterpress separately from these evaluation files.
Licensing uses the organisation’s size, with usage and user limits set by the selected plan. Desktop covers physical outputs and protected, read-only PDFs. Logos, web text, social media, video and app embedding have their own licence categories, while Enterprise/All Media combines those uses. Custom work can add a logo, symbols or language coverage to an existing family, or develop a new design.
Strengths
- Offers related sans, slab and softer family branches.
- The character viewer identifies individual glyphs and their Unicode values.
- Custom services can extend symbols, logos and language coverage.
Watch out for
- Trial fonts have limited characters and no OpenType features.
- Desktop licensing alone does not cover every logo, web or moving-image use.
Best for
- Identity projects comparing related retail treatments
- Designers needing a tailored character set
