What it does
Family Type is an independent foundry publishing Athletics, Modern Era, Universal Sans, Lanterne, Aime and other families. Its Brand Licence covers many communication uses together, with annual and perpetual payment choices.
Athletics offers a concrete comparison for a brand name: its extended strokes, asymmetric arcs and alternate characters create a different rhythm from a neutral sans. Related catalog choices include Modern Era Mono and Universal Sans Text and Display. Custom-work case studies such as KFC and Triple J show commissioned applications, rather than fonts available from the retail shop.
Brand pricing uses the organisation’s employee count and annual revenue. Government organisations use employee count alone, while non-profits receive adjusted pricing. Ordinary coverage groups print, websites, packaging, digital advertising, social content and non-broadcast motion work. App embedding, broadcasting and hardware distribution need additions. Contractors may use the files for the licensed organisation’s work, while separate companies generally need their own rights.
Eligible family pages provide trials after account creation or login. The OTF tests contain letters, numbers and basic punctuation, and the EULA limits evaluation to one person, one computer and 30 days. They cannot be used for published work. After a production purchase, use the account licence page to download the files. Expired download links can be regenerated there. Choose perpetual payment for indefinite use, or annual payment with renewal required to continue.
Strengths
- Combines many ordinary brand outputs within one licence.
- Permits covered contractors to work for the licensed organisation.
- Lets customers regenerate expired font-download links from their account.
Watch out for
- Trials last 30 days and cover only one person and computer.
- Apps, broadcast and hardware embedding need additional rights.
- Annual usage rights end if the licence is not renewed.
Best for
- Organisations licensing a consistent brand family
- Agencies coordinating fonts with a client and its contractors
