The current Fantasy Grounds site says the full app is free for both hosting and playing, with no host or player licenses needed. Create an account, install the app for your operating system and start with the built-in rulesets. Older license comparisons do not describe this free-to-play arrangement.

Check the exact ruleset and book edition before buying extra material. Marketplace books, Forge modules and the art subscription add content; installing the free app does not include every commercial rulebook.
