What it does
FarbVélo generates colour palettes from random choices or a dropped image. Its controls include colour stops, minimum hue separation, lightness ramps and interpolation methods, with links for saving and sharing a result.
Press Space to generate a palette using the current settings. Change the number of colours, lightness ramp or minimum hue-angle difference to steer the next result. Dragging the background or using the left and right arrows changes the Mix Padding setting.
Drop a reference image onto the page to derive another starting palette. Save & Share provides a palette link and copied colour values; the settings can also be tracked in the URL. The developer publishes the generator under CC BY-SA 4.0, so redistributed adaptations of the project need attribution and share-alike terms.
Strengths
- Hue, lightness and interpolation are exposed as generation controls.
- A dropped image can supply the initial colour reference.
Best for
- Designers comparing alternative palette directions
