What it does
FAST.com estimates connection speed using transfers to Netflix servers and can show upload speed alongside loaded and unloaded latency.
FAST.com first emphasizes download speed; Show more info adds upload plus unloaded and loaded latency. Its settings control parallel connections, minimum and maximum duration, and whether to measure loaded latency during upload. Saving those settings on the device makes later comparisons easier to repeat. The measurements use downloads and uploads to Netflix servers, so they sample that route at that time rather than every Internet destination. Comparing loaded with unloaded latency can reveal a change during traffic. Netflix describes the service for individual use and explicitly excludes enterprise bandwidth certification.
Strengths
- Loaded and unloaded latency in the expanded view
- Configurable duration and parallel connections
Best for
- A browser check of throughput and responsiveness under load
