What it does
FastFlix is a free graphical interface for hardware and software video encoders. Its compatibility tables distinguish HDR, audio, subtitles, covers, and hardware-specific support.
Configure executable FFmpeg/ffprobe on PATH and the hardware/tools required by the selected encoder. Codec availability follows the compiled build. Copying bt.2020 colour on 10-bit output is distinct from carrying HDR10/HDR10+ metadata. Text subtitles extract directly; PGS can become SUP images or OCR-derived SRT with Tesseract 4.x+ and MKVToolNix. Settings report detected programs. The code uses MIT licensing, with separate release-packaging notes.
Strengths
- Makes feature support across encoders visible in compatibility tables.
Watch out for
- Some hardware encoder tools require separate installation and suitable hardware.
Best for
- Video encoding where HDR and stream support must be explicit
