What it does

FastStone Capture is a Windows screenshot and screen-recording tool. It combines scrolling capture, callouts, step numbers, blur and image combining. Its FSC working format keeps annotation objects editable for later revisions; a 30-day trial precedes a paid lifetime licence.

Keep a working copy for later changes

FSC files preserve the screenshot and its annotation objects together. Keep that working file when labels may change, then export PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF for sharing. Tabs hold several captures, and optional workspaces group them with separate last-used folders.

The Capture Panel chooses the capture tool and output destination. You can capture a window, menu, scrolling page or fixed region, add callouts and numbered steps, then combine images. Captures can also go directly to Word, PowerPoint, Excel or OneNote. The recorder saves MP4 or WMV and has annotation, zoom and cutting tools.

Price and evaluation

FastStone Capture costs USD 29.95 as a one-time purchase with a lifetime licence and free upgrades. The home Family licence costs USD 69.95 for up to five computers. Capture requires a licence after its 30-day trial; the free personal-use terms for FastStone Image Viewer and Photo Resizer do not apply to Capture.

Strengths

  • FSC files retain annotation objects for later editing.
  • Workspaces group tabbed captures and remember their output folders.

Watch out for

  • Capture requires payment after the 30-day evaluation.
  • The Family licence is specifically for home use.

Best for

  • Maintaining Windows screenshot guides with labels that change between versions.
