What it does
Feather is a free outline icon library built around SVG files on a 24-pixel grid. Its website has size, stroke-width and color controls, with JavaScript, Node and sprite integrations documented in the repository.
Use the website’s Customize controls to set size, stroke width and color, or choose Download all for the collection. The icons are ordinary SVG files, so they can also be embedded directly in HTML or used as images.
For a JavaScript page, install feather-icons or load its script from the documented CDN. Mark an element with an icon name using data-feather, then call feather.replace() to substitute the SVG. That replacement method is browser-only; Node code can use feather.icons[name].toSvg() to obtain an SVG string.
The repository also links to a Figma component file, which requires a Figma account to duplicate. Direct SVG and package use need no Feather account. Feather is MIT licensed for personal and commercial projects, with the licence notice retained in distributed copies.
Strengths
- The catalog exposes size, stroke-width and color controls.
- Supports direct SVG use, sprites and JavaScript-generated SVG strings.
Watch out for
- The feather.replace method works only in a browser environment.
- Duplicating the Figma component file requires a Figma account.
Best for
- Interfaces using a consistent outline style
- Web projects needing SVG files or a small JavaScript integration
