What it does
FilmConvert develops Nitrate for film emulation, CineMatch for camera matching and Hazy for diffusion effects. Nitrate uses camera and picture-profile choices as the starting point for film-stock colour, grain and curve adjustments inside a supported editor. Licences are sold as one-time purchases.
In Nitrate, choose the camera brand, model and picture profile before selecting the film treatment. Grain response can be adjusted separately across shadows, midtones and highlights, with further softness and saturation controls. Curves provide separate control over colour channels and the transition into highlights and shadows.
Current Nitrate purchase options
| Licence | Listed one-time price | Host coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Single-host Nitrate | USD 119 | Adobe Premiere Pro/After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro |
| Nitrate bundle | USD 179 | All three host options above |
| Halation add-on | USD 59 | Additional highlight-halo effect for Nitrate |
The listed Nitrate prices are current offers; no end date is given. Halation is a separate purchase and is excluded from the base plugin and Nitrate bundle. The bundle does not mean every product in FilmConvert’s catalogue.
Nitrate can be activated on three computers at once, with remote deactivation through the account when a seat needs to move. The free trial adds a watermark. Adobe and Resolve versions support Mac and Windows; Final Cut Pro is the Mac option.
Strengths
- Camera and picture-profile selection precede the film treatment.
- Grain controls can treat darker, middle and brighter tones separately.
Watch out for
- The trial watermarks the image.
- Halation costs extra, including with the Nitrate bundle.
- A single-host licence does not cover the other editor versions.
Best for
- Editors shaping film-style colour and grain without leaving their editing host.
