What it does

FilmLab converts photographs of color or black-and-white negatives, with desktop RAW processing and mobile preview tools.

FilmLab Desktop separates the scan, its edits and the exported photograph. Choose positive, colour-negative or black-and-white-negative processing, then refine the result. The version 3.0 manual exports JPEG or 8-/16-bit TIFF in sRGB. Edits live in .fprc files beside the unchanged inputs, so keep those files together when moving work; deleting a sidecar loses the edits. Shared storage is possible, but simultaneous editing of one image can overwrite changes. The manual also distinguishes cancelled subscriptions: existing conversions remain usable, while converting new files requires a licence.

Strengths

  • Desktop and mobile film-negative workflows
  • RAW input for camera scanning

Watch out for

  • Simultaneous editing of one image is unsupported

Best for

  • Digitizing a collection of film negatives
