What it does
Finaltype is a design and teaching collective that publishes type families and articles on typography. Its Legit, Arccus and Komplex superfamilies coordinate character widths across styles, with retail purchases linked through Fontspring.
Legit’s uniwidth system keeps corresponding glyph widths consistent across its Sans, Serif, Slab and Didone branches. Changing a paragraph’s style can therefore preserve its line structure, which is useful in publications where emphasis or hierarchy changes late in the layout. The family page explains that relationship and links to the individual designs and the Fontspring purchase page.
The Fonts index groups choices such as uniwidth, monospace, headline and display. It also explains differences that affect a shortlist: Romis uses true small capitals in place of lowercase letters, while Monoflow provides a fixed-width design with bold and italic companions. Geóso includes subscript and superscript features, contextual alternates and arrows.
Topics adds longer discussions of web justification, letter spacing and abstract calligraphy. These are useful companions when deciding how to set a family, particularly if the project involves dense paragraphs or a change between related styles. Commercial orders and their licence choices are handled through the linked retailer.
