What it does

FINRA Fixed Income Data provides bond lookup, reported trades and market-activity summaries. Corporate and agency bond data are free for personal, noncommercial use. Professional data feeds have separate subscriptions, while saved views and watchlists use a FINRA account.

Use Fixed Income Security Lookup with a TRACE symbol or CUSIP, both identifiers for a particular security. Accept the Fixed Income Data User Agreement before searching. This avoids confusing separate bond issues from the same issuer.

The corporate and agency bond grid provides up to ten years of end-of-day information. An individual security page provides up to three years of real-time trade history. These are reports of executed transactions, not quotations at which you can necessarily trade, and an illiquid bond may have no recent reported activity.

The portal also separates Treasury and structured-product activity. Municipal bond data are reached through its link to EMMA, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board's service. Aggregate reports have their own daily, weekly or monthly periods.

Corporate and agency data are free for noncommercial use. Search is available from the public page after agreement to the terms; a FINRA Data login adds saved views and a Bond Watchlist. Subscription feeds for professional, academic and media use are listed separately. FINRA's agreement restricts the public data to personal use and prohibits redistribution and automated copying.

Strengths

  • Finds specific bond issues by security identifier
  • Separates individual trade history from end-of-day bond grids
  • Provides distinct views for Treasury and structured-product activity

Watch out for

  • Public data use is restricted to personal, noncommercial purposes
  • Reported trades are not executable bid or offer quotes

Best for

  • Individual bond investors checking a specific issue's reported activity
  • Users comparing bond-market summaries with security-level trade history
