What it does
FireAlpaca is a drawing application with a free standard edition and a paid SE edition. Its brushes, layers, snap tools and symmetry controls support illustration, and current downloads include Windows, Mac and Linux.
Create a canvas with File > New, then adjust a brush’s spacing or spray intensity while watching its preview. The material collection includes flowers, plants, lace and other repeating motifs as well as conventional painting brushes.
Save the working file as MDP or PSD to retain layers. For a finished image, File > Export offers PNG, JPEG and BMP, with controls to fit the image within a chosen width and height. PNG and JPEG do not preserve editable layers.
The standard edition is free for commercial and personal artwork and displays a sponsor banner at startup. FireAlpaca SE is listed at USD 39.99 as a one-time purchase. It removes ads and adds exclusive brushes, layer masks and Projects for managing related pages. Some materials in the shared catalogue are marked for SE only.
Strengths
- Brush previews show changes to spacing and spray intensity.
- Export controls can fit an image within specified dimensions.
Watch out for
- Layer masks, Projects and some brushes require the paid SE edition.
Best for
- Desktop sketching
- Illustrations with repeating brush motifs
