What it does
First Citizens Bank brings supported outside-account activity into its personal digital banking view. Customers can organize spending categories, model debt payoffs and follow bills through payment history. Primary Checking offers a continuing free account for customers receiving electronic statements.
Build a useful spending view
Bring relevant outside accounts into the activity view, then use categories and subcategories to separate broad spending totals. Debt tools include credit cards and student loans, with payoff scenarios for planning repayments.
For bills, choose one-off or recurring payments and use reminders and history to follow them. The app also lets you photograph checks and check deposit status.
Primary Checking and service charges
Primary Checking needs a $50 opening deposit but no ongoing minimum balance. Enroll in electronic statements within 60 days. Without them, the bank automatically converts the account to Select Checking, which has monthly charges. In the California and Massachusetts September 2026 tariff, Select costs $12 monthly, waived by a $1,500 average daily balance or $250 in electronic direct deposits (ACH).
Digital access, standard online bill payments and bank-to-bank transfers are free. Rush bill payments cost $34.95 for the next business day or $29.95 for the second business day; account-based waivers may apply. The service tariff also lists a $7.50 cancellation fee before a bill payment is disbursed.
