What it does
Flent wraps tools such as netperf and iperf into aggregate network tests, with plotting, metadata capture and batch execution.
Flent coordinates the measurement tools used by a test rather than supplying every probe itself. Its quick start places netserver on the receiving computer and Flent with netperf on the client. Select an RRUL, TCP upload or TCP download test, specify that server and a duration, and choose the plot output. The run produces a PNG plus a data file that can be reopened to recreate plots; aggregated data uses gzipped JSON. The GUI has extra dependencies, while command-line runs suit batches. The selected endpoints and load define the observation. Flent’s source is GPLv3, and the documentation states that its license does not affect generated output.
Strengths
- Aggregates several measurements into repeatable tests
- Plots and retains host metadata
Watch out for
- Requires the underlying benchmark tools used by a test
Best for
- Comparing network behavior under repeatable load
