What it does

FlipaClip is a frame-by-frame drawing and animation app with onion skins, frame organization and looping tools. It has free access and an optional Plus subscription. Plus adds controls such as customized onion skins, PNG sequence export and removal of movie branding and advertisements.

See across the end of a loop

Onion skins show surrounding drawings as faint overlays. The loop setting also shows the beginning of the sequence while you draw its ending, making the return movement easier to align. In the documented interface, open the stage’s three-dot menu, select Onion Skin and use Edit for its controls.

Colour mode distinguishes earlier frames in red from later ones in green. Frame-count, opacity and skipping controls change how much surrounding motion is visible.

Where Plus changes the workflow

Plus provides customized onion settings, image-sequence output, personal audio imports, longer video imports and extra brushes. It also removes advertisements and the FlipaClip logo from exported movies. The current homepage adds a choice of Classic or Studio layout and tools for grouping and looping frames.

Strengths

  • Loop-aware onion skins connect the last drawing with the first
  • Colour-coded references distinguish earlier and later poses
  • Frame grouping supports repeated motion

Watch out for

  • Customized onion controls and PNG sequence export require Plus
  • Removing ads and movie branding requires paid access

Best for

  • Artists learning short drawn loops
  • Frame-by-frame animation with neighbouring pose references
