What it does

Flowbite is an open-source UI component library built with Tailwind CSS utilities and JavaScript. Its ecosystem includes design files, templates and an extended commercial offering.

Flowbite pairs Tailwind styling with JavaScript for dropdowns, modals and other interactive controls. Its current quickstart uses Tailwind CSS 4: install flowbite, import a theme and the plugin, include Flowbite in the CSS source configuration, then load its JavaScript.

For a modal, connect the trigger to the target using data-modal-target and the toggle, show or hide attributes. The bundled script attaches the handlers. When markup appears after a framework has mounted, initFlowbite or a component-specific initializer can attach them then. A JavaScript API also exposes placement, backdrop and lifecycle callbacks when attributes alone are insufficient.

The public component code is free under MIT and can be installed without a Flowbite account. Figma design resources and Pro pages belong to the wider offering; Pro uses a separate commercial licence. Documentation code has its own CC BY 3.0 attribution terms.

Strengths

  • Documentation covers Tailwind styling and JavaScript-driven interactions together.
  • Design files provide a counterpart to the coded interface components.
  • Data attributes and a JavaScript API offer different ways to control interactive elements.

Watch out for

  • Interactive examples need JavaScript initialization as well as copied markup.
  • Pro resources use a separate commercial licence from the public components.

Best for

  • Teams prototyping and building Tailwind-based interfaces
