What it does
Fonts In Use is a free public archive of typography indexed by typeface, format, industry and period. Contributed examples and editorial commentary show how fonts work in books, packaging, websites, signs and other finished design.
Fonts In Use shows type in the company of images, layout and real content. Search for a family, or browse the Topics and Formats menus to find relevant projects. A typeface used on an album sleeve can lead to quite different references from the same face used in a book. The Staff Picks Only filter at the top right of a gallery narrows any category or search to examples selected for their design or documentation.
Browsing is free without an account. If you want a saved shortlist, sign in and click Like on an example, then open My Likes from the account menu. Your settings control whether that collection is public.
Contributing needs an account too: Add a Use accepts images, a title, description and credits, then sends the entry for editorial approval. The archive emphasizes published work rather than promotional specimens. Its project images retain their stated copyrights, so use the entries as references rather than treating them as reusable artwork.
