What it does

Fontspring sells desktop fonts and self-hosted webfonts with perpetual licences. Installable demos help designers evaluate a purchase, while its help center explains file formats, licence ownership and web-traffic allowances.

Fontspring separates licence duration from traffic allowances: its licences are perpetual, while a webfont's page-view limit resets each month. The allowance covers the licence owner's websites, not unrelated clients. Change the limit in the cart and select Update before checkout; an unlimited option is available.

Demo fonts let you check a face in a private mockup before buying. Add the demo to your cart, sign in or create an account, and complete the zero-cost checkout to reach the download links. Demos do not expire, but usually omit characters, language support or OpenType features. Their evaluation rights do not automatically cover a published commercial design.

For desktop purchases, the download button normally supplies OTF files. If an application needs TrueType, the adjacent dropdown offers Download TTFs when available. Install one format of the same font at a time to avoid conflicts. Webfont kits include WOFF and WOFF2 files.

Strengths

  • Sells perpetual licences with separate web-traffic allowances.
  • Provides installable demos and documented desktop and webfont download choices.

Watch out for

  • A license does not cover unrelated client owners.
  • A limited web tier needs upgrading when traffic exceeds it.

Best for

  • Web teams planning font licensing for a long-lived site.
  • Agencies arranging ownership for a client handoff.
