What it does
Font Squirrel curates free fonts that it identifies as suitable for commercial desktop work. You can filter by style, language, family size and intended use, then download locally or follow an offsite link. Web, ebook and application embedding rights still depend on the individual font licence.
Font Squirrel’s Font Filter separates Desktop, Webfont, Ebook, Application and OFL/Apache uses. The symbols beside a family show which uses the site believes its licence allows. A dark symbol indicates permission; a light one indicates that the use may not be covered. Font Squirrel asks visitors to confirm this against the actual licence.
Download buttons show TTF or OTF and mark offsite downloads. Some families must be obtained from their creators because redistribution is restricted, so there is no single download for the whole catalogue.
The Font Identifier accepts an image to look for matching fonts. Webfont Generator converts eligible files for websites, but some fonts are blocked at the foundry’s request or because the files are incompatible. Conversion does not create web-use permission.
