What it does

FontStruct is a free online font builder that assembles letters from geometric shapes. Its FontStructor editor generates TrueType fonts, and you can keep creations private or share them in the gallery. Creating a font starts with a free account; gallery fonts have their own reuse permissions.

FontStructor builds letters from geometric blocks, making it suited to modular alphabets and pixel-style display lettering. The completed design becomes a downloadable TrueType font.

To begin, select Start Now and register. The homepage links a quick start guide and introductory screencast for the editor. Your FontStructions can remain private, or you can publish them in the gallery for other people to download or clone.

The gallery is a second way to start: find a shared design and inspect its construction. Cloning changes the design, but it does not remove the original font's permissions. Check the licence attached to that font before using a derivative commercially. The builder is funded through advertising and sponsors rather than a trial period.

Strengths

  • Generates TrueType output.
  • Supports private work and shared gallery projects.

Watch out for

  • The editor centers on geometric, modular construction.

Best for
