What it does

Footage.net searches stock, news and archival footage across partner collections. Visitors can search and screen clips without an account; a free account adds saved bins, project folders and research downloads.

Use the License link on a clip to reach the partner’s purchase page or open an information-request form. Footage.net does not sell the master file itself, so the owning archive sets the price and supplies the final licensed footage.

For editing research, sign in and look for the Download icon on an eligible clip. These files are low-resolution, watermarked previews for test edits, not final production use. Saved clips go to the Research Dashboard, where project folders and shared bins keep candidates together.

The free Zap request service sends a brief to participating archives when a search needs human help. Its Rights Type menu includes Royalty Free, allowing you to request that licensing model specifically.

Strengths

  • One search reaches several footage archives.
  • Free accounts organise clips and provide eligible watermarked previews.

Watch out for

  • Final master files and prices must be obtained from the owning archive.
  • Some records have no online screening clip.

Best for

  • Archive researchers comparing footage across suppliers
