What it does

Nuke provides node-based compositing for visual effects, with a product family spanning editorial and review workflows.

Nuke builds a shot as connected processing nodes for compositing, keying and other image treatments. NukeX and Nuke Studio add different tools and editorial roles, so choose the actual application rather than treating every family feature as base Nuke.

For learning, Nuke Non-commercial offers free, non-watermarked versions but limits output to 1920×1080. It disables certain nodes and MPEG4/H.264 formats, excludes third-party plugins and saves encrypted project data that commercial Nuke cannot open. That is a different route from the commercial trial or a production licence.

Strengths

  • A node graph exposes the shot's processing chain.
