What it does
Foundry Virtual Tabletop supplies a licensed game server with extensible systems and modules. The host buys the software; players normally connect through a browser.
Choose a supported game system, then decide where the server will run: on the host’s computer or through a hosting provider. The one-time software license covers the host, and players do not need to purchase it. Hosting costs and separately sold game content are additional considerations.
One license permits only one instance accessible to other players at a time; a personal test instance can run separately if other players cannot enter it. Core Foundry does not currently support mobile devices, and initial license verification needs an internet connection. Those conditions matter when a group expects tablet play or several always-available campaigns.
Watch out for
- Core software does not support mobile devices
- One license cannot cover several concurrently accessible game servers
Best for
- Groups that want control over a hosted tabletop
