What it does

Frink is a calculation tool and language that tracks physical units and supports rational, complex and high-precision arithmetic.

Frink carries physical units through calculations and can convert mixed-unit expressions. In the web interface, enter an expression in From and a target unit in To, or put the -> conversion directly in From. Lookup finds unit definitions, with an exact-match option; names are case-sensitive. Integers and rational fractions can remain exact, while floating-point work has configurable precision. setPrecision affects subsequent calculations, and the documentation warns that not every operation, notably trigonometric functions, supports arbitrary precision. The Java application adds an editable programming mode with save/load, alongside command-line and Android routes. Keep these local-runtime choices separate from the web service, and distinguish built-in physical data from network-dependent features such as currency conversion.

Strengths

  • Unit tracking through calculations
  • Rational, complex and high-precision numerical types

Best for
