What it does
FutureLearn offers courses from universities and cultural institutions, combining a sequence of learning steps with learner discussion.
The social element gives FutureLearn a clear use: study a topic and compare interpretations with other learners as you go. Choose a course from the relevant institution, follow its steps and use the discussion to examine a difficult idea. The official overview describes access across computers, tablets and phones, which can help when study time is split between devices.
Many short courses have free Limited Access for the course duration, sometimes with weeks unlocking on a schedule. This option excludes test steps and certificates. A course upgrade or Unlimited subscription adds benefits, but course eligibility and how long you can retain the material depend on that option. Check the course page before treating a short course as a formal qualification.
