What it does
String-O-Matic applies multiple search-and-replace rules across files, with whole-word, line-range and newline-normalization controls.
Use String-O-Matic's search-only pass to inspect matches before replacing text or filenames. Case, whole-word, regex and range controls narrow the job; prompt-on-replace, logs, saved settings and optional ZIP backups support repeated work. The trial can search but cannot perform replacements. Version 36.0 lists Windows Vista or later and ASCII, Unicode and UTF-8 handling. Keep binary Office or database files out of a casual text-replacement workflow: the publisher warns that changing string lengths in those files can corrupt them.
Strengths
- Search-only preview and prompt-on-replace mode
- Reusable projects and line restrictions
Watch out for
- Trial disables replacement operations
- Length-changing replacements can corrupt binary document formats
Best for
- Controlled replacements across plain-text files
