What it does
Gem Wallet is a free, open-source iOS and Android wallet with local account creation, supported assets and cross-chain swap routing. Creating, importing, holding and receiving do not require a paid plan.
A Gem swap quote represents a route through another protocol or provider. Open Swap, choose both assets and the amount, then Review Swap. Before approving, open Details to inspect the provider, exchange rate and Minimum Received rather than comparing only the headline token amount.
The You Receive amount already includes the applicable provider and Gem charges. Network Fee is separate; tapping its coin value exposes further details and, where supported, customization. Cross-chain execution can involve more than one network and take longer than a same-chain transfer. A quoted rate does not guarantee the asset’s later value.
Gem’s fee varies by route. Most ordinary same-chain and cross-chain swaps carry 0.5%; Chainflip routes are listed at 0.45%, while OKX DEX routes cost 0.7%, including stablecoin pairs. The NEAR Intents route displays a 1% application fee, of which Gem receives half. Check the selected route before assuming a headline rate applies.
No email or personal-information signup is needed for the wallet itself. Its twelve-word recovery phrase remains the means of restoring a local account. Buying through an integrated payment company can introduce that company’s checks and charges.
Feature availability also differs from wallet availability. Gem currently excludes Buy and Sell in the UK, and perpetual trading in both the UK and US. An accessible wallet screen therefore does not establish access to every connected financial service.
