What it does

Gestalt is Pinterest’s design system, with interface foundations, component guidance and a public React codebase. The current site distinguishes Gestalt 2.0 from legacy v1 documentation. The public pinterest/gestalt repository is Apache-licensed but has reached end of life and no longer receives maintenance or support.

Gestalt’s current homepage introduces Pinterest’s shared design language. Its legacy component reference includes familiar controls such as buttons and dialogs alongside Pinterest-oriented layouts such as Masonry, Collage and SearchGuide. The legacy pages display a warning that their information may be outdated and link to Gestalt 2.0.

Public code is now a legacy resource

The pinterest/gestalt repository says it was deprecated in November 2025, with v177.0.13 as the last supported version. It no longer accepts issues or pull requests and is kept for archival and reference use. Its installation examples still show gestalt packages, ES-module imports and compiled CSS, but these belong to that unsupported codebase.

The archived code remains free under Apache 2.0. It can help a team understand or maintain an existing Gestalt implementation, while the live site is the starting point for current Pinterest design guidance. Do not assume the old package matches the new system.
