What it does
Kap is an open-source screen recorder for macOS, distributed under the MIT licence. It captures a selected area and provides trimming, click highlights and optional audio, with GIF, MP4, WebM and APNG export and optional sharing plugins.
Click Kap's menu-bar icon, select the screen area and start recording. Click the icon again to stop. While recording, Option-click pauses the capture; right-click opens further options.
Trim the result before exporting it as GIF, MP4, WebM or APNG. Click highlighting and optional audio can be included. Sharing plugins add destinations such as Giphy and Streamable.
Kap requires macOS 12 or later, with separate Apple silicon and Intel downloads. Its MIT licence permits use and modification, including commercial use, while requiring the copyright and permission notice to accompany redistributed copies or substantial portions of the software.
