What it does

Pointer is a Chrome extension that adds an AI writing assistant to Google Docs. It works inside the document and writes its edits as native Google Docs Suggestions, so changes appear as tracked additions and deletions. Each suggestion includes an explanation, and you accept or reject edits one by one. The tool is powered by Anthropic's Claude and supports writing in more than 35 languages. It is free to start and no credit card is listed.

The extension handles style edits, grammar and spelling fixes, tone changes, expansion, summarization, translation and plain language rewrites. It keeps headers, lists, tables and styles in place, keeps the document revision history, and can be undone with Ctrl+Z. Voice commands are supported.
