What it does
Recharge manages recurring commerce with subscription offers, customer account tools, bundles and operational workflows. Its Affinity portal lets subscribers manage upcoming orders, while merchant plans provide different implementation, retention and integration capabilities.
Recharge's Affinity portal lets subscribers swap products, change quantities, reschedule or skip orders where the merchant enables those actions. Shopify account integration can put these controls beside the customer's existing orders. Loyalty rewards and referral information can appear there too.
For Affinity 1.0, open Storefront, Customer portal, then Preview and choose a customer. Preview actions change that customer's real data, so use a suitable test account. Style the portal in Shopify's theme editor, publish that theme, select Affinity under the portal's Themes and save.
Shopify plans
| Plan | Published monthly platform fee | Recharge transaction fee |
|---|---|---|
| 25-50 | USD 25 | None within the entry allowance |
| Starter | USD 99 | 1.49% plus USD 0.19 per transaction |
| Plus | USD 499 | From 1.34% plus USD 0.19 per transaction |
| Custom | Volume-based quote | Agreed terms |
The 60-day trial leads to paid access. The 25-50 plan is restricted to eligible new installations with at most 50 cumulative lifetime customers, including inactive and test customers. Crossing that count automatically moves the store to Starter; deleting customers does not reverse it. Recharge fees are separate from payment-provider charges, and refunds do not reverse its transaction fee. Concierge SMS adds per-message-segment charges.
Merchant setup uses the connected store account; only its owner can approve billing. Recharge usage is calculated by calendar month, while Shopify invoices on a rolling thirty-day cycle.
Strengths
- Order changes can be exposed through a branded self-service portal
- Shopify account integration avoids a separate subscriber login
Watch out for
- Platform and transaction charges can both apply, with separate SMS usage costs
- The entry-plan threshold counts lifetime customers, including inactive and test accounts
Best for
- Commerce teams operating a recurring replenishment or subscription programme
