What it does
git-annex manages file content outside Git's normal object store and supports distributed synchronization, backup and offline-location tracking.
git-annex keeps large-file content outside Git’s normal object store while Git tracks the paths and content locations. Initialize an annex, add and commit files, then configure remotes such as another repository or a removable drive. Use get when content needs to be available locally; an entry in the tree can exist while its content remains offline elsewhere. Drop removes local content and normally refuses if it cannot verify that removal is safe or the content is required locally. Force bypasses those checks. The free-software project suits Git users managing distributed archives, with an assistant interface for folder synchronization.
Strengths
- Tracks content across online and offline locations
