What it does

copyparty turns a device into a file server with browser uploads and downloads, search, archive downloads and configurable user and folder permissions.

Choose the served folders and permissions before starting a copyparty instance. Its README says a bare launch grants everyone read/write access to the current directory; accounts and volumes allow more precise read, write, move and delete rules. Browser users can drop files or folders into the up2k uploader. Interrupted transfers resume, and after restarting the browser or computer the user can select the same files again to continue. Choose the collision rule deliberately: keep both with a new filename, replace only an older server file, or overwrite a differing file when permissions allow.

Strengths

  • Resumable browser transfers
  • Folder and user permission configuration

Best for

  • Operating a flexible browser-accessible file server
