What it does
FinRobot is an open-source equity-research project with desktop, local web and Python interfaces. Its current workstation combines financial calculations with language-model analysis and report generation. An earlier self-hosted web version and an educational AutoGen library remain separate parts of the repository.
FinRobot's current workstation separates financial calculations from the language model's written explanation. Its research workflow gathers data, performs analysis and valuation, then assembles a report with the investment thesis, financial statements, valuation, risks and other sections. The project documents checks that compare report statements with calculated figures.
Choose the interface and configure a provider
The packaged desktop release is for Apple Silicon Macs. Intel Mac, Windows and Linux users can run the local browser interface from source. Open Settings and supply a supported language-model API key before requesting analysis. FinRobot does not include a provider account or key. Internet access is needed for a new analysis; existing reports can be browsed offline.
The command-line interface offers narrower tasks as well as a full report. For example, finrobot comps NVDA --peers AMD,INTC selects a company and comparison group. Other commands produce discounted cash-flow valuations or investment-committee memos, and model and output-language options let you control the run.
The Apache 2.0 code is free to use under its license. Model calls and optional external data remain separate. Source installation requires technical setup. In local browser mode, the backend has no authentication and is restricted to the local machine; the documentation recommends the desktop app on a shared computer. Keep the generation of the chosen installation clear: the older educational library and web app have different setup instructions.
