What it does

OsEngine is a Windows toolkit for historical market-data collection, strategy testing, optimization and trading automation. OsTester can simulate several strategies against a shared portfolio. The software is free to use under its own license, which limits distribution of modified versions.

OsData collects candles, trades and order-book history. OsTester uses that history to simulate multiple strategies, instruments and timeframes within one portfolio. OsOptimizer adds walk-forward phases, filters between phases and saved reports. This makes the suite relevant to developers studying how strategies behave together.

A first research project can follow that division: prepare a small historical dataset in OsData, examine the strategy in OsTester, then use OsOptimizer for repeated parameter tests. The repository also documents a Model Context Protocol interface for software agents, with controls for history, robots, tests and account views.

The publisher allows free use and private modifications for yourself or your company. Its license permits separately created extensions in the Custom folder, but restricts distributing modified versions of the platform. Publicly available code therefore does not mean unrestricted redistribution.

No activation email or application account is required for the local software, according to the developer. Windows 10/11 and listed Windows Server versions are supported. The developer says critical-error reports can be sent from the application; its guide shows how to turn that reporting off in application settings. Broker connections and data services still require their own access arrangements.

Strengths

  • Tests several strategies with one shared portfolio
  • Separates history collection, testing and walk-forward optimization
  • Allows free local use without an activation account

Watch out for

  • The custom license restricts distribution of modified platform versions
  • Critical-error reporting needs to be disabled in settings if you do not want to send it

Best for

  • Developers researching portfolio-level algorithmic strategies
  • Windows users managing market history and repeated strategy tests
