What it does
Gridicons is the icon set used by WordPress.com’s Calypso application. It provides raw SVG assets and a React component, with documented sizes, optical alignment and contribution guidelines.
Gridicons is shaped around WordPress.com’s Calypso interface. Its drawing rules use a 24-pixel base grid, with hollow and solid forms available to express inactive and active states. Raw artwork in svg-min can be used outside React.
Install the gridicons package for React, then either select a name with the Gridicon component or import an individual symbol such as gridicons/dist/add-image. Individual imports avoid bringing in the whole set when only a few icons are needed. The size property defaults to 24 pixels, and normal event props can attach behavior.
The collection is free under GPL version 2 or later, whose redistribution terms need to fit the receiving project. New icon proposals are primarily intended for Calypso. One artwork-specific constraint is also documented: the WordPress logo in gridicon-my-sites should not be displayed above 36 pixels.
