What it does
colorjoe is a free JavaScript colour picker under the MIT licence, with optional value fields and an alpha slider. CSS controls its dimensions, while extras determine which editing controls accompany the visual picker.
Initialize an RGB or HSL picker on a page element, then add only the needed extras. These can show the current colour, a HEX field or numeric RGB, HSL, HSV or CMYK fields. Field settings select the numeric limit and decimal precision; appending A to the model adds alpha.
The change event follows an active selection and done fires when selection stops. Both return a one.color object, whose css method supplies a CSS value. get and set let the application read or restore the selection, and update can trigger the initial change event after a listener is attached.
The project is released under the MIT licence.
Strengths
- CSS sets the picker’s dimensions and layout.
- Extras expose exact values without requiring every field.
- An update call can initialize a listening preview.
Watch out for
- Event values are one.color objects and need conversion for a plain-string field.
Best for
- Resizable colour panels with selected numeric controls
