What it does

Camelot extracts tables from PDFs and exports CSV, JSON, Excel, HTML, Markdown, or SQLite. It includes command-line tools, parser settings, table metrics, and optional neural and OCR backends.

Read the PDF, choose a parser for ruled or borderless tables, inspect the returned cells and metrics, then export a DataFrame or CSV/JSON/Excel file. Areas and column controls can narrow a difficult table, and continuation tables can be stacked across pages. Text-based parsers need a text layer; scanned pages require the optional neural and OCR stack. The default pdfium backend is bundled, but optional OCR can pull conflicting OpenCV packages and GUI dependencies into a headless environment. Reported metrics should guide review of the extracted cells.

Strengths

  • Provides several table parsers and inspectable extraction metrics.

Watch out for

  • Scans need optional neural/OCR packages; their OpenCV dependencies require care in headless environments.

Best for

  • Recovering reusable tables from PDF reports
