What it does

Catppuccin Icons is a VS Code and VSCodium file-icon theme with palette variants, monochrome output and custom file and folder associations.

Catppuccin Icons brings the palette's Latte, Frappé, Macchiato and Mocha variants into the VS Code or VSCodium file explorer. Install the extension from a supported marketplace, or download a release VSIX and install it locally through the command palette.

Its most useful controls concern how a project is read. Associate a language, extension, filename or folder name with a symbol from the collection; turn off special folder artwork or folding arrows for a simpler view; or use monochrome icons when color competes with the rest of the editor. These settings help projects with their own naming conventions stay legible.

Custom associations select existing icons rather than loading external SVGs. Changing settings regenerates theme files and can require a window reload, particularly on slower machines. The extension is MIT licensed. It changes file icons; the matching editor color theme is a separate project.

Strengths

  • Custom associations cover language IDs, extensions, filenames and folders.
  • Monochrome output and folder settings offer a quieter explorer view.

Watch out for

  • Custom associations cannot load external SVG artwork.
  • Changing settings regenerates files and may require a window reload.

Best for

  • VS Code and VSCodium file navigation
  • Projects with custom file naming conventions
