What it does
cjdns implements an encrypted IPv6 network using public-key cryptography for addresses and a distributed routing system.
cjdns builds an encrypted IPv6 overlay network. Its setup guide generates a configuration file, starts a virtual network interface and configures peer connections. It suits technical users who can manage a node and the services exposed on its new IPv6 address.
Protect the configuration file: the guide warns that losing it loses the node's identity and connections, while someone who obtains it can impersonate the node. Default DNS-seeder discovery also reveals participation to the operators of the peers it finds. Custom peer credentials offer a different connection arrangement. The overlay supplies peer connectivity rather than a subscription network of public internet exits.
Strengths
- Public-key-based addressing
- Documented peer-network setup
Best for
- Technical users experimenting with encrypted IPv6 overlays
