What it does

musikcube combines a console player, audio engine, metadata indexing and a music-server workflow.

Use musikcube locally for terminal playback, or stream and control its library from the musikdroid Android client. The README provides binaries and package-install routes; its server sends metadata over WebSocket and optionally transcoded audio over HTTP.

The server is enabled by default and is intended for a local network. The README documents no TLS, limited authentication and a plaintext password in settings. A remote setup needs its separate network/security configuration; choose the local player role if that is all you need.

Strengths

  • Local player and server roles
  • Documented Android client

Watch out for

  • The default server is intended for a local network

Best for

  • Listeners who want a terminal-controlled home music setup
