What it does
DrFTPD is a Java distributed FTP server with a coordinating master and multiple nodes that store and transfer files.
DrFTPD combines storage nodes under a coordinating FTP master while the nodes carry the file traffic. Existing clients can connect, but passive mode requires PRET support. Combining several links increases aggregate capacity across transfers; it does not make one file use their summed bandwidth. The master’s filelist is authoritative, and each node needs exclusive write access to its storage area so outside changes do not leave it out of sync. The documented 4.x setup uses Java 17, with JDK, Maven and Git on the master.
Strengths
- Distributed storage and transfer-node architecture
Watch out for
- Passive mode requires a PRET-capable client
Best for
- Specialized multi-node FTP deployments
