What it does

Monekin is a free, open-source personal finance app for Android and Windows that works offline without registration. It combines daily account records with category budgets and savings goals.

Use separate accounts for the balances you track, then organize purchases with categories and subcategories that match your own spending. Recurring transactions cover repeated bills and subscriptions. Category limits and savings goals provide different progress views, so a spending allowance can stay separate from a longer-term target.

Review statistics by account when an overall total hides a change. Local backups let you preserve the records and restore them on another device. More than 50 currencies are supported, and you can customize exchange rates when the rate applied to a purchase differs from your usual rate.

Android users can install Monekin from Google Play; the repository's current release also supplies a Windows installer. CSV exports include a separate row for each account involved in a transfer.

Strengths

  • No fixed limit on accounts or transactions
  • Assets and debts can be included in a net-worth view

Watch out for

  • There is no automatic bank synchronization

Best for

  • People maintaining a personal spending ledger while regularly offline
