What it does
FORM reads expressions from files and applies algebraic transformations, returning a textual mathematical result.
FORM reads symbolic expressions and transformation rules from files and returns textual mathematics. Its README demonstrates repeated power-pattern replacement until no exponent matches, and rearranging a function's arguments around a matched symbol before Print and .end. The file keeps the rule sequence available for inspection or another run. FORM is built for expressions larger than RAM by using disk space; that does not remove disk-capacity or resource requirements. Arbitrary-precision floating arithmetic is conditional on both GMP and MPFR being available in the build. Its GPLv3 source and precompiled distribution routes are distinct from an interactive worksheet, so prepare a program in FORM's language for the intended algebraic transformation.
Strengths
- Rule-based symbolic transformation
- Designed around very large expressions
Watch out for
- Calculations require file-based programs and transformation syntax
Best for
- Large symbolic algebra calculations
