What it does
Osmic, or OSM Icons, is a map icon library with 14 px SVG artwork and an icon-font version. Its export script can select, recolor and package customized collections.
Osmic targets small map symbols with flat, single-color artwork on a 14-pixel base grid. Some concepts have size-specific drawings, identified by a pixel suffix in the filename. Choose the intended variant before preparing a map style.
A Python export script reads a YAML configuration to select or exclude icons, recolor them, add padding, halos or shields, and build customized output. SVG, PNG, sprite and icon-font exports are described. This is useful for keeping a tourist map’s chosen amenities and visual settings together.
The SVG collection is free under CC0, while the font uses SIL OFL. Both are available as public files for local use, without an Osmic account. Retain the font’s own licence when distributing it; the SVG dedication does not replace those font terms.
Strengths
- The export script supports selection, color, padding, halos and shields.
- The base artwork follows compact cartographic drawing rules.
Watch out for
- Font redistribution follows OFL rather than the SVG collection’s CC0 terms.
Best for
- Custom map styles
- Cartographers building a selected symbol export
