What it does
netperf is a network benchmark with tests for unidirectional throughput and end-to-end latency across several networking types.
netperf normally coordinates with a reachable netserver process on the other endpoint. The server can run as a standalone daemon; the client passes configuration over a control connection and receives results after the separate test connection finishes. Choose the test around throughput or request/response behavior, and record both endpoint environments for comparison. Its manual cautions that CPU accounting inside a virtual guest can miss work performed by the hypervisor. The README also warns that the manual may be outdated, so confirm options against the installed code. HPE publishes this implementation under the MIT license.
