What it does
gifski is a command-line GIF encoder using cross-frame palettes and temporal dithering, with a library integration option.
Supply PNG frames and a named GIF output, or pipe YUV4MPEG frames from FFmpeg to stdin. Width, height and overall, lossy and motion-quality controls trade appearance for file size. Frame wildcards must expand in the shell. Large inputs may be downsized automatically, and displayed size estimates are imprecise. Direct video-file decoding is an optional build feature rather than a default capability. The encoder is AGPL3-or-later, with commercial licensing available.
Strengths
- Dedicated animation encoding
- CLI and C library options
Watch out for
- Direct video decoding needs an optional build; GIF file-size estimates are imprecise.
Best for
- Creating a GIF from image frames
