What it does

PDF4QT supplies PDF viewing, editing, page manipulation, comparison, forms, signatures, OCR, and structure inspection. The toolkit includes graphical applications and a command-line tool for Windows and Linux.

Use document comparison or the structure inspector when reviewing a difficult PDF, and the page-manipulation application for packet assembly. The toolkit offers Windows and Linux graphical applications plus PdfTool for command-line work. OCR depends on the optional Tesseract component. XFA support is limited to simple read-only forms, so an interactive XFA form needs a different compatibility assessment. The engine is MIT-licensed, with separate terms for third-party components.

Strengths

  • Combines desktop review tools with technical inspection and command-line processing.

Watch out for

  • Documented XFA support is limited to simple read-only forms.

Best for

  • Windows or Linux users needing an open PDF processing toolkit
